How it all started.

Growing up next to the river, supporting my dad, cousins, and uncles at some of the most popular river races back in South Africa, it was only a matter of time before the paddling bug bit. Needless to say, in 1996, I picked up a paddle—my dad’s old K1—and I haven’t stopped paddling since. I may not be a World or Olympic champion, but I love everything about paddling and the social connections formed on and off the water. Having raced in many rivers, flatwater events, and surfski marathons around the world, I love sharing the thrills and experiences of this beloved water sport with anyone willing to listen.

Bringing the best to New Zealand.

In 2021, during one of the many lockdowns, I found myself stuck indoors, dreaming of paddling again. A family discussion and a few ice creams later, an idea was born: to bring some of the best paddling products from around the world and make them directly accessible to the New Zealand paddle sport community. And so, Paddle Sport New Zealand was founded.
